It’s now January 8th, 2020. It’s winter in Florida so we will have sunshine with a high of 65 today. Still wearing flip flops, shorts and t shirts. I try not to take the weather and the palm trees for granted. I’m grateful to be able to live in a place like this and to enjoy this day. After all, it’s Bubble Bath Day, National English Toffee Day, National Joy Germ Day, National Man Watcher’s Day (for the ladies) and War on Poverty Day. The very cool one is Joy Germ day which suggests that we infect everyone we meet with Joy by being positive and treating everyone with kindness. Everyday should be Joy Germ day. Now to history: Did you know that 1835 was the only time in our history that the US national debt $0? As of today, it’s over $23 trillion and that means that every citizen’s share is $70,138. In 1877 on this date Crazy Horse and his warriors fight their last battle with the United States Cavalry at Wolf Mountain in the Montana Territory. He said, “We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children.” In 1902 New York state assemblyman Francis G. Landon gets a bill passed to criminalize men turning around on a street and “looking at a woman in that way”. That law has not been repealed. In 1925 the 1st all-female US state supreme court appointed in Texas. In 1945 the University of Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team sets an NCAA record by holding Arkansas State to 6 points in a 75-6 win. Finally, in 1962 at the age of 21 Jack Nicklaus makes his first professional appearance and ties for 50th place in the Los Angeles Open. I’ll wrap up this post going back to Joy Germ Day and its suggestion to treat people with kindness. Aesop said, “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” It also makes you feel good. That’s my plan for today. Ya’ll be sure and Abide today.
