We now occupy the time/space of January 7, 2020. So far it seems like a nice place. The 6th has dissolved into memories and the 8th is nothing more than an expectation. Every one of us is moving through time on own journey toward a common destination. I’m trying to make the most of my trip. Today, we have several events we can celebrate: 1/7/2020 is Harlem Globetrotter’s Day, I’m Not Going To Take It Anymore Day, National Tempura Day, Old Rock Day, National Bobble Head Day and National Pass Gas Day. Yes, it is Fart Day. We all do it, we all laugh at it, now we can all celebrate the fact that our digestive systems produce gas which must be expelled. Now to history: in 1610 Galileo Galilei discovered the first three moons of Jupiter: Here is one of Galileo’s quotes: “It is surely harmful to souls to make it a heresy to believe what is proved.” That has some application today. In 1790 the French Revolution begins with a major riot in Versailles as people demand lower bread prices. The Queen, Marie Antoinette said “Let them eat brioche” (wasn’t cake). I’m sure she regretted saying that when she was beheaded in 1793. In 1830 the 1st US Railroad Station opens in Baltimore. In 1890 African American inventor William Purvis receives a patent for the fountain pen. In 1964 Dick Weber rolls highest bowling game in the air on a Boeing 707. I can’t find what the score was. Finally, in 1968 a 1st class US postage stamp is raised from 5 cents to 6 cents. This is the birthday (1800) of Millard Fillmore who was the 13th President. He said, “May God save the country, for it is evident that the people will not.” Another example of the chaos that has always been with us. Now I’m going to start exploring this new day. I have high expectations. Please don’t forget to Abide.
