We have reached the time/space known as December 11, 2019. Soon it will be gone. “Time flies” is an accurate saying since we are moving at 514,000 miles per hour through space. It’s hard to wrap my head around the fact that everything we see in the night sky is in flying through space at this speed. It must have been a hell of a big bang in the beginning. That was then and now it’s now. It’s Holiday Food Drive for Needy Animals Day, National Have a Bagel Day, International Mountain Day, National App Day and National Noodle Ring Day. I’m pretty sure the best bagels on this planet are made in New York City. If I were there, I’d have one this morning, with lox and cream cheese. So good. Now to the history of today: In 1395 John “Eleanor” Rykener, a male cross-dressing prostitute, is brought to court in London for “committing that detestable unmentionable and ignominious vice”. This is a big deal in Gay history. In 1730 Voltaire’s “Brutus” premieres in Paris. Voltaire was a philosopher and has lots of interesting quotes: “Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.” and “It is better to risk saving a guilty man than to condemn an innocent one.” Moving on. In 1909, colored moving pictures are demonstrated at Madison Square Garden, NYC. Finally, in 1964 Che Guevara speaks at the United Nations General Assembly in New York City.. I didn’t know that. He said “If you tremble with indignation at every injustice, then you are a comrade of mine.” Today is the birthday (1918) of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn who was a Russian writer. He said “It is time in the West to defend not so much human rights as human obligations” That’s a pretty profound quote if you think it. Rights are what someone has, obligations are about what someone should do. I’ll leave it up to you to figure out what yours are. Abide, and have an excellent day.
