Earth now occupies the time/space designated December 7th, 2019. Yesterday was a great day and I can only hope that today will be just as good. Probably won’t be because we don’t have a Parrot Head Christmas party to go to this evening. Everything’s gone but the memories and those will stay for a long time. Onto this new day: It’s Coats & Toys for Kids Day, Earmuff Day (not in Florida), Global Fat Bike Day (tires), National Cotton Candy Day, Letter Writing Day, Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day and National Rhubarb Vodka Day. Rhubarb is supposed to give Vodka a unique taste. I’ll try it if I can find it. Now the history of today: The Great storm of 1703 hits Southern England – thousands killed, Royal Navy losses 13 ships and around 1,500 seamen. No radar, no radio, no TV, no storm preparation. Must have been a really big storm. In 1877 Thomas Edison demonstrates his phonograph (gramophone) to the editors of “Scientific American”. In 1926 the gas refrigerator is patented. In 1937 the Red Sox acquire the contract of 19-year-old Ted Williams. “When I walk down the street and meet people,” Ted Williams once said, “I just want them to think ‘There goes the greatest hitter who ever lived.” Ted could see the spin of the ball as it left the pitcher’s hand. In 1941 the Imperial Japanese Navy with 353 planes attack the US fleet at Pearl Harbor Naval Base, Hawaii, killing 2,403 people. Finally, in 1967 Otis Redding records “Sittin‘ on the Dock of the Bay” on this date. Today is the birthday of Noam Chomsky. Most of you probably don’t know who he is. He is thought by many to be one of the most intelligent people who’ve ever lived. Scary smart. He’s still alive, go look up some of his quotes and start reading. When you’re done, your IQ will probably be a couple of points higher. Now, I’m going to have a second cup of coffee and start this day. Ya’ll abide now.
