I woke up this morning, as I often do, thinking about what it would be like to be homeless. I have no idea why I do this. It’s probably a good thing because it starts my day off with a thankful attitude. It is 36 degrees right now outside. We’ve landed in the time/space of December 3, 2019. Lots of celebratory events to choose from: Giving Tuesday, International Spirit of the Game Day, International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Let’s Hug Day, Make a Gift Day, National Green Bean Casserole Day, National Apple Pie Day and National Roof-Over-Your-Head Day. Before I get off of the homelessness thing, there are around 180,000 people living outside in Florida and 20 to 30,000 of them are children. I’m going with Let’s Hug each other. Sounds like fun. Onto what happened on this date: In 1868, the 1st blacks were placed on a jury for the trial of Jefferson Davis. In 1910 the first neon lights were displayed at the Paris auto show. In 1931 Alka Seltzer goes on sale. in 1950 Paul Harvey begins his national radio broadcast. I’ll get back to him in a moment. Finally, in 1956 Wilt Chamberlain plays his first college game for Kansas and scores 52 points and grabs 31 rebounds, breaking both all-time Kansas records in an 87–69 win against Northwestern. Wow. Now back to Paul Harvey: “In times like these, it helps to recall that there have always been times like these.” and ” I’ve never seen a monument erected to a pessimist.” I can remember sitting at the table with my parents listening to Paul Harvey on the radio. Always a good source of information with a heavy dose or common sense. That’s about it for today. Hope it’s a good one for you. It will be for me. Abide.
